Squids...smart??
Nothing interesting came my way recently, except...oh, yeah, there was this time when a friend of mine mistakenly thought that a couple of possums were humping each other on top of the garbage bin right outside our apartment 0_o ....well, it turned out that it was just a baby possum clinging onto its mom...heh you really should've seen her face when she saw the scene :D
Hmm promised to post up pictures of the dinner i single-handedly cooked (the end of the world must be approaching...) but never really got to it, but will probably post it up sometime soon (hopefully)...
About 2-3 nights ago there was this blackout covering the whole (or most) of the uni campus...apparently a fire started down at the engineering building where the main switch was. Found it kinda amusing that while my apartment-mates were complaining that they had uni work and all to complete, i was wondering if the refrigerated food was gonna be alright (somehow, that made me feel like i'm a glutton compared to the rest... T_T)
Apparently a Malaysian student got raped and murdered in Launceston recently...Though it wasn't in Hobart, no wonder I saw people fixing CCTVs around the apartments and such...so much for a "safe little town" which my dad thought...sheesh..
And yes, once again organic chemistry is driving me nuts....It's quite hard trying to comprehend what the lecturer is trying to say as he speaks in a bullet train fashion and expects us to jot down his notes simultaneously...Seriously, I wasn't sure who I felt like killing...him or myself?
As "celebration" of the start of uni, apparently they had bands playing and fireworks and etc down at the uni oval. Ally said that she knocked on my door to ask if I wanted to go, but unfortunately I was already dead asleep that I didn't even hear a thing... :( (Also unfortunately, this isn't the first time that a thing like this has happened...)
Okay, you're probably wondering, "What's with the title?"...It's something which I just remembered a while ago. It's about this pharmaco lecture I had just the other day which was on "Ethics" and animal experimentation...My lecturer was saying how while verterbraes are supposed to be humanely treated under the law, invertebraes are not given the same consideration as they aren't considered to be intelligent beings, all except for the...squid....?? I wondered, wha-?? And I was thinking, the only thing that ever crossed my mind about squid was how they were best suited sitting on a plate ready to be dished as dinner.... Anyway, isn't it really hypocritical? While researchers need to do months and months' worth of paperwork, and how they need to take proper "care" that their experimental subjects are humanely treated, hunters just need to get a license and they'll be able to gun down, like, dozens of prey. For some uncanny reason, "experimental subject" does not equal "prey" although the animals are of the same species...Hmmm...
Okay, signing off. Ally's bugging me to get off 'cos she's hungry, so.....
