The Vampire Diaries
To be honest, my first impression was: not nearly as bad as I'd imagined. Granted, I'd initially thought that the cast they'd picked for the series was close to appalling since some of the main characters *cough -Elena- cough* didn't even vaguely fit the character's description in the book. Not to mention the sudden appearance of fodder characters that were thrown into the mix/soup. Too many cooks, anyone? It's rather weird that the producers decided to get rid of a couple of the main characters and throw in a couple of fodders in their stead.
May I state that I'm about to stone whomever decided to plagarise the Twilight effect, turning Stefan into Edward's twin? Chalkiness is overrated.
Of all the characters, Damon is probably the only one who comes close to the Damon in the books. Elena is just...not Elena. Not just in terms of looks. Stefan is...well, emo like the Stefan in the books. But at least in the books he didn't actually verbalise his emo-ness, and he sure as hell didn't keep a diary. Or write with a freaking ink feather. Oh, lord.
I have no idea what's up with directors and special spooky effects when it comes to vampiric features. Sure, I know everyone's oh-so-keen when it comes to giving it a touch of supernatural effects, but conjunctivitis eyes and popping veins and oversizeddentures - I mean, fangs- are really an overexploited concept.
The crow outside Elena's window didn't look the least bit intimidating. And the dream she had of Damon was rather hilarious, actually.
Bonnie was, like you can imagine, portrayed quite differently in the TV series, but strangely enough, I didn't quite dislike it.
Thankfully, though, the series didn't quite have as many lame lines/scenes as I'd initially expected. Surely not even a quarter as many lame lines/scenes as Twilight, that's for sure.
Speaking of TV shows, Gossip Girl seems to be going down the drain. Thankfully there's always Supernatural. Heck, by this rate I may actually follow the Vampire Diaries series.
On a side note, some people just aren't meant for certain professions. Maybe I should've been a movie critic instead.
